Question Arowana Tanning Light - Please help to choose

Hi Bros,

Could you please help me to choose the right tanning light for my red arowana? Some of my arofanatic bros knows that, I've been approaching them for last 6 months with various queries.

The main problem is, none of the main stream tanning lights (arcadia) are available in India. Now I've shortlisted the available options and planning to order this weekend itself.

The options available are,
  • 1) Hagen Marine GLO (10,000 Kelvin, 5 feet, T8, 40W). Just check this - Ebay link
  • 2) Qian Hu's Aquazonic LED arowana tanning light (5 feet, LED)

Queries
  • 1) Which one would be a better choice? Hagen or QianHu's LED one?
  • 2) If hagen is the choice, they have some more varities - Power GLO, Aqua GLO, Floral GLO etc. Do you think one of this would be more suitable?
  • 3) Is there any difference between T8 & T5 other than size? Does it make any difference in tanning?
  • 4) I'm planning to start tanning by setting the light at top. Then once my red is used with the lighting slowly move to sideways. is this right, or unnecessary precaution?
Please help me, since i don't have anyone else to approach here. The arowana lover community here is wafer thin or who ever i met don't have right exposure or experience. Looking forward for replies from all of you.

Best Regards,
Jijo

I'm using the Qianhu Aquazonic led tanning light and I can see the coloration of my super red has deepened over the past 2-3 months. I leave it on about 7-8hrs/day

Thank you so much, AroSam, for the feedback. Well, Aquazonic is submersible? You kept it sideways or at top?

Led tanning lights are good and energy saving.
But normally their ballast or driver does not last.

I feel that any lights that promote algae growing will work as a tanning light over time.

Plc, t5, t8,led all can work.
