Default Question on cycling new tank

hi bros/sis, can anyone tell me which would be better and faster for cycling a new tank? eheim 2260 or 4ft ohf with 9 trays? my tank is 50x26x30" and medias i have available are CR, eheim substrat pro, biohome, bacteria house, mini bioballs, jap mat and nylon pot scrubber.

in the future im intending to use both canister and ohf together but fo now i can only start off with one.

which do bros here recommend?

recommend ohf.. cos got more oxygen exchange for bb to grow.. if possible get some old ohf wool from bros here.. i also getting some from a friendly and helpful bro.. saves lots of time for cycling process.. just squeeze the juice out of the wool onto your media and lay the old wool on top of your new wool.. but make sure u got ammonia source.. if not u take how much wool also no use.. all the bb in the old wool no food to eat also die.. and make sure u get the wool in the tank water home and in the water in 1 hr..

Is water change required during the cycling? If yes, how frequent and how much(in percentage)?

thanks ranmaru1987, great idea to use old filter wool. actually i have another set up running on ohf, maybe i get the wool from there. maybe i exchange some old medias from the other set up and place in the new set up. and i also have my eheim 2260 running in one set up. i thought maybe i could let it run in the new set up for a while before switching to the OHF. also intending to add old tank water to the new tank when doing WC for my old tanks. how long do u think this will take to cycle my tank this way?

if yr tank is bn tank then u might need to soak for week then drain e water

but if is old tank, then u can just transfer yr half old tank water + old media, plug & play

Good suggestion Bro Martin.

I agree on the oxygen xchange for BB to grow as mentioned by Bro ranmaru1987
hence OHF as compared to cannister.

suggest new tank soak with salt for few day, best with agitation and heater. after that drain off start cycling.

for salt soak purpose to test anything leak as salt added will increase the weight add on the tank.

imo.. both are the same.. u just in to provide a constant carbon source(waste) for bacteria to grow and dun change water for a week or so and stock ur tank in a progressive manner n everything shld b alright.. If ur tank is pristine right fr the start.. it doesn't matter if u are using 10x eheim 2260 or 20x OH.. the level of maturity of ur filtration sys will still b as gd as none
