Coral Chips as PH buffer
Hi bros,
For those using coral chips to buffer their PH, how long before you change the coral chips (how long before they lose the ability to buffer)? Thanks in advance! |

Previously when using those large pieces, I will change whenever I notice the ph starts to drop significantly.
Nowadays I use the branche size type, it will just disintegrate and I just top up..... |

You heavy feeding? Bioload high? Most probably yes lol cause I encounter before and ph back to normal after I reduce lifestock.

Just change mine after abt 2 years plus usage, I raise em every few months when ph start to drop. But this time round ph still drop even after washed, so change em. Suggest to change slowly, mine I change all one shot,10kg cc...ph now quite high at 7.2. need to monitor closely.

Normally it takes a day to increase slightly. Slightly as in 0.03 like that. But if tank water already loose it's buffering capabilities, you won't see it increasing unless you add more. May I suggest to add bi-carbonate. But at very very small quantity like a small pinch. I tried tjat before and it has kept at the intended pH for long time with 500g coral chip to buffer. I have low bio load just one red aro.

Weirdly no leh. My only fish in this tank are a 8 inch PB and two red hooks. Been about 60 hours since I put in the bag of coral chips and PH still at 5.0. Super frustrated. Any ideas on what other steps I can take?
