Hi ranchu8,
We're speculating lesser-than-expected entries for the junior category by the closing date for registration. Hence, the clause 'subject to changes' as you can see Nevertheless, we'll have to wait for all the entries to come in before concluding if we'll do away with the junior category |

At the rate Ranchus are growing among hobbyists, there may not be many Tosai participants. Hobbyists with Tosais esp, participate!

In Japan, breeders will not place a Tosai in the Tosai category if it is too large. This Tosai can compete in the Nisai (second year) category, ie a Tosai can compete in Nisai cat, and Nisai can compete in Oya cat. But a second year Ranchu, Nisai is not allowed to compete in the Tosai cat; likewise a third year Oya is not allowed to compete in the Nisai cat (ie can upgrade but cannot downgrade )This is what happens at times in club competitions.
In AJRS, the competition is very stiff. Tosais and Nisais that are too large will not compete in the higher cats, and they will not be fielded in their respective categories. (I have seen one such solid Tosai a couple of years back.) The literal meaning of Tosai is this year/present year; Nisai is 2 years old (not Ranchu born last year ie a Tosai on 1 Jan is not Nisai literally yet, but this is the general understanding ) and the meaning of Oya is parent Ranchu. Aside from competitions, our understanding of what a Tosai, Nisai and Oya are, is correct. |
