Hi bro, i am not using a sump, i am using a standard 4ft OHF (total of 6 trays).. I have a feeling that it is not enough thus added the sponge filter. I seriously agree with you that it is unsightly but i guess i am willing to compromise for the health of the fish. Will be replacing that sponge filter with the pic shown.

Will be putting it by the side to make it less unsightly.

Your bioload is not high so regular partial WC should be ok. Feed less.
IMO, you tank would look more neat and nicer if you put a water bubble curtain instead of a sponge filter.

is this what they call 水妖精?
the issue with this type of sponge filter is if the AC stops, hence the pump stops, it will release the debris back into the tank.. even if you lift it up to clean it it will cloud the water too. Might invest into another small hanging mini canister if I were you.. just my humble opinion.
