Maybe you could tell us more about your tank setup......

what soil you used....

the water parameter......reading....

and does this happen recently or everytime you add shrimp will have death???

What kinda white sand? Maybe this kinda sand will buffer ph in the water. Usually we use soil for our shrimp tanks.

I have tried using artifical soil as well for one of my tank and the shrimps are still doing fine for these soil doesn't have any effect on ph. But I have another layer of GEX soil on top of the artifical soil for the shrimps to play with.

i dont think u can use white sand. PH level should be quite high and no good for them to move around unless is very old sand.
