Default What age does a gold Arowana stop growing?

Hi just want to ask what age does a gold Arowana stop growing?

I have a gold Arowana approx 22", certificate date was march 2009, living in a 7x2.5x2.5, reasonably big appetite feeding every other day. Would this piece still grow anymore in length and depth?

Thanks

I think it depends on the size of the tank. I fishes up really really big ones when I was a kid. They were silver aro though.

Imo fish never stop growing, different life stage has different growth rate. Young fish growth rate is fast, reaching a certain size depending on its genetics makeup slows down. The tank size and frequency of water change have to take into account.

hi Andrew

I cant speak for golds but I have a view on reds if it is of any help. Been keeping reds the last 15 yrs easily.

My reds grow real quickly till 2 years (18-20"), i start to notice slowing thereafter - but they still grow. After 3rd year or so - can hardly notice 'growth'. Latching on to bro togo's post, case in point is my old red, kept it more than 10 years, never quite notice how slowly and gradually it has grown till i had to let it go - nearly 30" by the lfs' estimate.

Guess for golds, it would seem the growth appears stuttering a little earlier bcos generally they tend to be smaller than reds. Having said that, aros wold have a natural limit eg it cant reach 4' (not that i've heard of anyway).

Hope this helps.

Cheers

We know the adult size for gold when fully grown will be smaller compare to red.
And we know when keeping aro from juvenile age, it tend to grow about an inch each month provide kept in proper tank size, well fed and keeping good water condition.
And after keeping the aro for 2 years from tag date, they will still grow but pace will be much slower compare to juvenile stage.
TS, your aro is now 22inch, kept for about 5 years from 2009 in a 7x2.5x2.5ft tank, I'm not sure will it still grow in term of length but if continue to feed it well and regularly, I'm sure it can maintain to keep the nice sumo size and shape.
