WC frequency in sump tank

What is your frequency & volume of WC for a tank running on sump?

Do you WC because test kits show undesirable results or water quality looks bad or aro behaving abnormal?

Reason I'm asking is tank has been running almost 2weeks. Water looks clear, no odour. Test kit results are consistent and aro is actively roaming at top and mid. Appetite has improved tremendously compared to when running on canister.

Kindly share your routine and comments?

Feed more, WC more.

1x 3.5" FF
2x 3-4" TFB
2x 4" bichirs
4x 3-4" ID

Main tank is 5ft while sump is 3ft. Thanks

agree on feed more wc more. esp. feed mp... wah water dirty very fast.

For me it is still about twice a week, 30% wc if I can. If not I will push to a week max. Never go beyond a week. If I have to go overseas for outstation for at least one or two weeks, then ask maid to feed twice a week for maintenance.

What fishes r in the tank?

Imo. I think the feed, the bio load generated, mechanical filtration, bio medias, the flow rate, the design sump and the lay out (medias) all of which will effect the quality of recycling water...The WC regime/frequency is very much dependent on the accumulation and the level for nitrate tolerated.

I think. There's a possibility of a re written (your so call hard n fast rule) if the fresh water skimming is make possible.

Hi bro,

Now for your current tank size and sump setup, it should be able to last your fishes for 2 to 3 weeks (if don't overfeed) as I see they are still at juvenile stage. However, I will recommend at least once a week wc of 40%. Keep the weekly wc habit going and your fishes will grow up healthier and faster.
