Guppy baby
Hi All,
how come my guppy fry grow so slow.. they already 2 months old but from the picture you can see it's like less than 1 month like that... is it because my tank too small? 45cm like that only. So feeding problem? need to feed live food? I feed them dried food powder form 3 times a day. Any advice it's well appreciated Last edited by angelo; 23-06-2012 at 09:49 PM. |

- separate the fries and keep them alone by themselves.
- 100% 'live' feeds only, buffet style. - water change every 5-7 days. and best raised outdoors. happy gupping!... |

Yes, you need to seperate the baby fries from the adult. Even if you feed 10 times, I believe your adult males would have gobble down all the food you have fed before your fries got it.
What strain of fries are that? They seem to be so snow white .. You can try bbs or tubifex to pump them up. BBS may be expensive but your fries will get all the nutritious they can get to grow. Tubix is equally nutritious but is cheap and may introduce unwanted disesases into your tank. In fact for me I have stopped feeding tubi as I found out that those fries fed on tubi will have those stomach wasting diseases. In other words, the fish esp adult female abdomen become smaller. Currently, I feed mine bbs, bs or vinegar eels as live food. |

Brother, check your water parameters. Your guppies have fin rot issue.
For fry, BBS, boon or tubi will help. I keeping fry together with adults, all grow up fast and well. |

Can you point out where they have fin rot? I think they look fine. My Thai Black Moscow male (one of the two) got fin rot on his dorsal fin and it was white around the edges. The fish in the pics have no white around the edges. Mine look the same as in the pics, so if they have fin rot... I guess I should be worried?

That albino or white guppy at the top left seems to be having fin clamp which is symptom of water parameter issue.

Water parameters are not optimum, guppies having fin rot issues.I think it is due to the acidic ph of the water as you added some soil at the bottom of the tank.I recommend you to add coral chips into your tank so as to reduce rhe acidity of the water in the tank.Best is for you to remove the soil and replace with inert substrate such as lapis sand.As for fry's growth, nutritious food such as tubiflex, boon and baby brine shrimp is best for optimum growth. Also remember to change water regularly to remove the waste materials and growth-inhibiting hormones produced by faster growing fishes.Best for me is to change 50% of water with aged and conditioned water every 2 days.It will be good if you can separate fries from parents or resettle them into multiple tanks for maximum growth. Sorry, i a little bit talkative here.

I can't tell from the blurry pic if the gups are having fin rot issues.
But I would use sodium bicarbonate on aged water to control my water ph level. I would also suggest separating the fries from adults for better growth. Live food beats dry food anytime for max growth. |
