In terms of routine, 20%~30% at least once a week. Twice if I have time.

I don't take readings anymore. I WC because I want to improve water condition. I don't know how much I am improving the water each time I change. So long the fish is feeding well, growing well, swimming well and interacting well, all is well.

To me, the goal is always it's about minimizing fluctuation of my water condition while keeping my fish happy and healthy. Fluctuation varies on factors, like some of the bros have mentioned, like bio load, feeding, filtration capacity, WC frequency, WC volume etc...

What is your opinion of 90% water change daily using foam air pump filtering, versus using an adequate cannister filter while changing only 50% water a week? Provided bioload is not high e.g. a 12" cichlid n a 6" parrot and feeding moderately twice a day.

I think......both methods can keep the fishes alive.
*assuming water change is done with anti chlorine and introduce gradually.

I think the key difference between the two is that with 90% water change daily, you don't really rely on nitrification process to keep fish. Majority of waste is consistently remove so the bb don't have food. Kinda like discus keepers trying to grow their discus quickly.

End of the day, I think it really depends on the owner.
1) Do I have the time and do I enjoy doing this?
2) What do I want to achieve out of this (WC regime)?

I agree..
WC up to individual keepers.. But WC has to be done. 10% at least . With all the new technology n medias avail... We dun hv to do large WC like 15yrs ago.. But a lil WC is still needed..

No hard and fast rule.

Dependin on what you feed and how much poop.

I usually do WC frm sump instead of the main tank if I dun see much poop in main tank.

Usually as much as possible... to fill up the gallons of containers I have at the planter to water the plants for ard a week.

And ya... on a weekly basis. Else my plants no water to drink leh...
