first one definitely look better and if the second one withstand better pressure im not too sure. But by having 2 small panel of glass and center left a smaller support I feel it might not be stronger. glass is a tough material too if u use the correct thickness with the support at the 2 side only with less joint it should be better and stronger. IMHO hope it help

please check on the tempered glass issue as i though most glass for fish tank is not tempered due to it will shattered into pieces and not crack when it break.

1/2 inch is only about 12mm
6ft tank they are using 12mm urs is much bigger but with only a panel so not sure how it will impact the glass but i feel u should use something more then 12mm (i could be wrong but im more kiasu type)

I've read tempered is 5x stronger than ordinary glass? But the weakness is atbthe edge?

1st one is better for better viewing. Both have the same strength as both will have 2 ft height of water and same thickness.

someone suggested bracing for the glass panel,
anybody here has seen a pond with viewing glass with glass bracing?
I'd like to not have cement on the top glass
