Possible to set up outdoor pond without filter system?
Hi guys. I would like to find out if any of you has a pond set-up without any filtration system or UV sterilisation?
Is it even possible to have such a set up? If yes, where do I start? Thanks very much for the help guys. Really appreciate it. Size of pond is not too big, maybe about 3m by 2m by 1.5m. Regards, Sunesh |

I've heard of such setups before. 100% no filtration at all. However, this is only possible with the help of plants. Nature's way. Firstly, pond must be exposed to sunlight. Secondly, there must be sufficient and appropriate plants placed to handle bioload. |

I think the best fish to have will be guppies. For the plants, you can used Hydrilla. Let them grow all over. Must be in sunlight, top up with overnight tap water if evaporation is too fast. If not just wait for the rain. Your guppies will breed very fast... Had done this with a cement tanks decades ago, really hassel free. For green water problem, will have initially, but be patient, will resolve by itself.

Any water tat is not moving will become stale
a filteration system is to allow growin of bact. Plants are part of the equation, BUT - in mass amt. I saw some ponds of our fellow AF bros... very beautiful, and despite the massive pond sizes, they still have some form of filteration to allow the growth of bact and unless ure pond is a section of a river, i stongly think some form of filteration is required. |

yup, i thought of that too. without a filter, all the ugly stuff will remain in the pond. plus if plant so vastly, then can see what??? haha. i guess with filter is still the best.
