Questions regarding my sump set-up
Hi everyone!
I just got my very first tank from N30, and is now in day 5 of my rotting-prawn tank cycling. Still 0 ammonia Anyway, below is my sump tank's 1st compartment, want to ask whether is it better for me to shift the momotaro sticks below so that it is exposed to more water showers? tinyurl<dot>com/hftflu8 From what I see, the filter wool is hindering the amount of water dripping to the momotaro. For a 422 tank, is 1 piece of filter wool enough mechanical filtration? |

U basically want to keep the media as compact as possible.
As for your question regarding the momotaro , it is ok even below the egg crate as there is still high flow of water coming directly from above. |

Just went to seaview and got 3L of Mr. Aqua to stack up the remaining spaces. Here's the improved version. On day 7 of my cycling process, my 2 pieces of rotting prawn still not releasing any ammonia. Is it because I didn't cut them up and de-shell them? Anyone got any suggestion or opinions please feel free to tell me! |

it looks like your tank is brand new, may take sometime for bacteria to find their way into your tank and start the nitrification cycle.
Do u have access to any established fish tanks? transfer some water from the old fish tank into this tank to kick start the cycling. filter wool from old fish tanks work too, but they may be too messy.

Thanks for your help!
After cycling I intend to get 1 crossback aro, and a few tankmates like tiger and fei feng Quote:
I finally got to see 4ppm of ammonia spike after trying for so many days. I realized I had to use the 2 ammonia solutions instead of one because I thought the other was a spare. Felt damn stupid after reading the instruction manual haha. Since there is alr ammonia and some nitrite, can I safely remove the rotting prawn now? |

one packet of feeder gold fishes will help a lot.
Then buy the Fritz Zyme7 to start breeding some bacteria! http://fritzaquatics.com/product/fri...-7-freshwater/ |

Are those bottled bacteria solution sold at LFS able to kick start having fishes inside a new tank instead of waiting days or weeks to get the tank cycled ?
