2nd try at rays, need some advice
Hi bros,
I am in the process of clearing out some stock in my 200gallon tank. Ultimately, I think I will only leave my vsfr arowana in there and perhaps my tigrinus/vittatus. I have come across two deals on some nice looking stingrays and want to get some input from everyone here. First up is a pair of BD x henlei, male and female at approximately 25cm. The pair is selling for 4500 RMB (China) Here are some photos: 2nd photo is female, 3rd photo is male. Second up was a male pair of entry level BD but the nicer one sold already. The bottom one is the one that is available. It is approximately 23-24 cm. He is listed at 2500 RMB. Any input on which route I should take? I am not the most familiar with stingrays although I have kept arowanas and other predatory fish for many many years now. Thanks! |

The 2500 RMB male is not even a BD to begin with.. it's just a BDLeo..

i agree with bro Azon. the entry level "bd" cannot be categorized as bd. BDleo yes but definately not BD.
try going for a pair. the rays always looks happier when they have company of the same kind. |

ah thanks for the input. are the prices they are asking for at/below or above market pricing for bd x hen / bd x leo?
also, since they will be comming with my other fish, i regularly add a bag of aquarium salt during WC. my tigrinis which is also scaleless does not seem to be bothered by it at all. one last point, my PH range is typically around 5 which is a tad bit low but so far all the fish in the there seem to be thriving and does not show any signs of stress. how will stingrays fair in that range? I try to do a 10-15% WC every 2-3 days or so. |

Your ph is on the low side.. try to keep it around 6.5 to 7.3.. don't add salt unnecessarily too..
BD x hen is just like Leo x hen.. yellowish spots in the centre.. Last edited by azon; 27-04-2015 at 10:18 PM. |
