Default Add salt during wc a must??

Dear All, can someone advise me if adding salt a must during every water change? I have heard different view and now confused. One LFS advise me to put salt after wc to prevent PH from falling.
should I put coral chip to buffer or add salt to maintain the level??

tank size: 5 x 2.5 x2.5
WC: 30-40% weekly
1Red (10-12 inch), 2 IT, 2 Oscar (both IT & Oscar about 2.5 inch)

Appreciate all valuable input.
Thanks

For buffering of PH I'm using coral chips. I think most bros here uses either coral chips or calcium carbonate. I think salt its self does not have any buffering effect, pls correct me if I'm wrong. I will only add salt into tank if my fishes are sick.

salt has nothing to do with pH. It is more for prevention of diseases and also a cure for early stages of sickness.

Agreed. Add salt if fish is stress, slight injury or new fish. For pH buffer is OS or CC

salt is not necessary, maybe goldfish is a diff thing.
i only use salt for treatment or comm fight recovery use.

purigen i use before, good but i find it not neccessary when i wc weekly 40%
as my water is always quite good.

and purigen need to recharge etc.

if i can keep things simple like follow wc regiment strictly
then i dun need to buy those high tech stuff.

water, air pump , filtration. lightings for pleasure, simple.
y use so many funny things if not really a necessity

treatment if really need heater and salt, at most
i keep melafix, prazi gold, and multicure.
enuff lor

keep fish to keep me relax , not crack brain to think of rubbish to buy :P
worry here worry there. need special care.

else no point keep fish, no worry :P

Adding salt is a personal preference IMHO. There are good and bad about it, depending on your needs. Hope these links can clear your doubts...

Personally....20+ years ago I do add abit salt to my arowana tank. Nowadays, I never add any (except treatments) to any of my tanks.
