The pros of it
1) when water enters the sulphur chamber & bacteria breaks dwn the NO3, the discharged water is ard pH 6-6.5. Running through a hydrocarbonate media will buffer the water up to pH 7.5-7.8. NR & CR in 1. 2) The reactor also kicks start alot faster thn other denitrator. The cons of it 1) Due to the discharge at 7.5 - 7.8, reefers had problem maintaining their pH at 8.3. 2) NSW has a sulfate level of abt 900mg/l. Discharge water contains sulfates which will increase the value above sea level. Effects is still unknown. Best is get a sulfate testkit. Sulphur denitrator used in 2003 on 4x2x2 reeftank. Never add fish medication into system running Sulphur denitrator. System crashes after medication is added. These happen 3 times, dunno why but will not do it again. mid 2004, remove sulphur denitrator, add medication, no problem. So these is wat I conclude. Do water change if running sulphur denitrator as we do not know how it will affect our livestocks if it exceeds 900mg/l. Since no testkit, just play safe change water. Quote:

I think for a brand new tank and try try but for an established tank better still to the old fashioned reliable and proven denitrator.
Can't afford to play play as the end-result could be very disastrous and difficult to choke on it in lieu of the investment over time to achieve an established tank. |
