Restarting Shellies Fever
Hey bros, always been thinking of keeping shellies but it didn't happen back then. Just got my hands on a multies trio recently and starting to love them. Don't really like planted tanks as it seems like i'm not cut out for it. Haha
Any bros here still into shellies? I'm getting a pair of brevis later! |

Hi ectan.
just bought a 3ft tank with cabinet that was used during aquarama from lesile - aquatic style. Gonna keep more shellies! Thinking of occies gold which I can find at NKS or melagaris - any idea where I can find them? I'm thinking of leleupi for top tier swimmer, julies for rock dweller mid tier and shellies for bottom tier. Most likely gonna get a trio each. Good to go? or any better poison? hehe Still searching for a canister filter at the moment. As for lighting, which color will bring out the best of these cuties? |

Anyhow they are not top swimmers, they are all over the place, & prefer to hang around rocks. If you want top & open water swimmers, go for the Cyprichromis laptosoma aka the sardines. For rock dwellers, you can consider the ever popular Altolamprologus comps & calvus. Lighting wise, go for white with a combination of blue. I have not seen meleagris in lfs or on order list for a while. They are getting more difficult to come by now. regards Last edited by ectan; 02-07-2013 at 03:27 PM. |

I personally like the light rendering colours which bring out the blue & natural colour of Tanga fishes |

Yes exactly, I am more incline to LED. any brand? UP new Z-series Pro LED lighting - this comes with either white or blue. Haven seen a lamp with 2 colors yet other than my fluval edge and lumiq cube

The one I'm using is the sirius LED lighting from Aquazonic. The light rendering is good but the power supply sucks big time ! Just go for other brand with 2 stripes of white & 1 stripe blue LEDs, I think should be fine. Try it out & see for yourself if the colour is ok, & not too blue. |
