thats is water quality bad. Do a water change should be able to solve the problems. I do experience some of the "black colour" doesn't remove after water change and it just like acid burnt to the poor fish.

The condition is called menalaphore migration, whereby the fish was exposed to high ammonia levels but is now recovering. So yes, when you see the black appearing, it means that it is on the road of recovery. Nothing to worry about.

I would tell you to watch your water parameters but I realise that it depends from fish to fish as I have 2 fish in the same tank but only one exhibits the symptom that you described.

The black will definitely fade off, so not to worry.

Yes, its on the recovery stage. it depends on how severe the fish is expose to high ammonia level, usually will clear off within a week or two. it normally happens when new fishes are purchase.

As Bro and rightly pointed out, depends from fish to fish and there is no definitive time frame for the black to fade off.

I have a fish with a black moustache now. He looks like Hitler.
