Have to be frank dave. I'm just explaining the true characteristics of each strain. Don't want you to learn the wrong things due to misrepresentation.

It's just like how to differentiate malau and zz. When both looks similar to the untrained eye.

super melons = upgrade of red melon, still a pigeon base fish but cleaner

RGD = from original breeder is from golden base fish, should not have any black peppering like pigeon. But will grey peppering on whole fish when stressed.

Those who bough fishes sold as rgd and have black peppering on the fins and nose region. Sorry to burst the bubble, they have been crossed with melon before and have pigeon gene.
Very well sum up on Dave questions , those who have rgd or searching for rgd should read up especially the part on RGD.

I might be wrong but just to share what i know.

Those are strains names coined by breeders.

Melons are red pigeon based reds. Add one "super" normally use to say that its a improved version of lesser/less obvious black specs.

RGD. Golden based red fish. Other that the black "halo" seen on the fins the fish should spot no black specs.

See fish don't see names.

I personally group red fishes to 3 types

1) Brown based

2) Gold based

3) Pigeon based
