RIP Mr. Lee. Thanks for leading the Old Guards and countless pioneers to make what SG is.

I think there wouldn't be another LKY for another 100 years or so... He is those type of 乱世出英雄, times of turbulence during the 50s in Singapore, he stepped up and filled in those giant shoes. He may have did wrong in certain policies regarding Singapore but I think overall he had did more rights given the difficult times and circumstances. Let the future generations and intellectuals discuss this in the future.
I wish him a peaceful journey

I watched some Taiwanese programs and they claim our saf was built up by them.
even our very first navy and air force chiefs are Taiwanese.

Any one that served ns from that era can confirm this?

It took Dr Goh Keng Swee, who was the Minister of Defence, and his small team at the Ministry of Interior and Defence (MID), most of 1966 to deliberate and plan the announcement of National Service. He first hinted at compulsory military training in Nov 1966, by which time a new military training facility, the Singapore Armed Forces Training Institute (SAFTI), had been completed in Jun 1966. He also announced compulsory military training for all new government/statutory board officers who joined after 1 Jan 1967."

If it was the Taiwanese then wil be interesting. It was stated in lky's book;
"first prime minister, disclosed the secret that had been kept for almost 40 years: It was the Israel Defense Forces that established the Singaporean army. "

Of course over many years Singapore has sent our troops there for training.
This article interesting;

I remember my old primary school (BPES) where Ten Mile Junction now stands. Had a pair of Pine trees planted by LKY. Reported in the papers , when they tore down the school they wanted to preserve the tree but half of it had rotted.
