oops thanks for the correction.

below from NEA webbie

my friend got fined $200 becos of #6.
she thot pot is dry so no mosquito, but when the rain came
the eggs can still hatch
======

Did you know?

1. Only the female aedes mosquito bites as it needs the protein in blood to develop its eggs.
2. The mosquito becomes infective approximately seven days after it has bitten a person carrying the virus. This is the extrinsic incubation period, during which time the virus replicates in the mosquito and reaches the salivary glands.
3. Peak biting is at dawn and dusk.
4. The average lifespan of an Aedes mosquito in Nature is two weeks
5. The mosquito can lay eggs about three times in its lifetime, and about 100 eggs are produced each time.
6. The eggs can lie dormant in dry conditions for up to about nine months, after which they can hatch if exposed to favourable conditions, i.e. water and food

Aedes mosquito comes out in the day as much as at night (i ever wrote to NEA about fogging in the day). But there seems to be more mossie at night. Perhaps no fogging workers willing to work at night, or maybe more pple will complaint when fogging is done at night...

10 mil for mosquitoes advertisement, and 34 mil for study of train feasibility. Now our money like hell notes, big in value and burn easily. No wonder property and COE prices are peanuts.

Personally, I don't know if these monies are well spend, but for the longer run, these are important (not talking abt e extend of monies involved but e work and effect of such projects).

For the $10mil mosquito thingy, it is not just advertisement. I hear on the news that there is a website for something abt Denge fever and I guess that's part of e package too? Really no idea what e $10mil comprise...

its $5m + $5m option?

Hopefully the first $5m will reverse the trend which is what we need very badly.
Think mediacorpse will benefit la... everyday advert to remind ppl.

imho, if this $$ can reduce just 1 death, its worth it already.

can the $ be more effectively spent by other means?
nono, but need to do something.
they have figured this is the best means..

selection of vendor must be by public procurement policy
so dont think every one is an AIM la.

for me, just watching the dengue cases data to see if trend is reverse
meanwhile doing house visit to drop info pamphlets etc

lets see

$10M ...... means at least 50,000 fines are going to be issued.

Yes, money spend on preventing more deaths and suffering will definitely be more well spent. Looking at it objectively, I rather these money be spend on Singapore and the people living here to make life better, than spend on others.

From what I hear on tv, read on some webby, dengue fever is torturous. And anyone who falls victim to dengue, have higher chance of another dengue if bitten again (or something like that). So these money spend on prevention and reduction is definitely better spend.
