Default Definition of SB for bichirs?

Just curious.. Is there a measurement of some sort to determine if a bichir is SB or not? Like perhaps the ratio of the length from fin to fin to the fin to tail? Hope some bros can help to enlighten. Just hoping not to get cheated. thanks!

Disregarding the shortness of cos, some say the number of finlets, presence of distorted scale and so on on senegals... Everyone's defination is different i suppose.

For endi i always goes by shorter than 1:2.5~3 head:body (do not count tail) ratio. but that is my own perception. Only one of my bichirs fits this description and never grow length wise since it reaches 8 inches ... all other sb sold to me i think is only ssb...... heh.

Maybe the shi fus can enlighten us....

Short body is very easy to see. Semi-short is personal judgement.
The difference for short bodies is very clear, no need to count fins and what not. If semi short........ if u like then buy, dun buy cos ppl tell u semi short.
Short body

Some ppl will say short, I say semi short.

I think SB bichirs are very obvious. Thick and short bodies.
For SSB, not so obvious. Non-uniform scales patterns.

Here is a pic of my SB albino senegal (not as zai as AS Bonito ones though...)

Some SB fishes have deformed/irregular scales.
As bro coldblood said, head to body ratio is a good way of determining SB fishes.
SB fishes also tend to have larger tail fins.

I think semi short is very subjective to beholder. Might just be a fat bichir. Short body bichirs usually have distorted scales and it is a birth defect I believe.
