tank management is important when tank space is limited.
not everyone has ability or luxury of big tanks. some or many of us started small too.
try out and observe how a setup affects fishes behaviour etc and it can also vary from fish to fish. they each have their own character sometimes or they may follow a general characteristic trait.
once you observe something amiss, make a change and see how is it. no one confirmed way about it, what may work for me may not work for you.
read up the threads and see what worked and did not worked for kakis here.

main thing, go slow since budget and tank size is a constraint for you. and enjoy the process

food wise alot of variety from NLS, tetrabits, hikari, DIY mixture. all up for you to choose based on budget and preference. some use only one type, some use a variety.
and there is still the option of frozen food, freeze dried food, live feeder.

My fishes ok har, so far so good, tank should be stable already, yup just got a used ios tank, but i nv use the ios use as compartment for breeding or hospital only
