Default How to start up goldfish tank?

Been to some farms and kana poison, keen to start up a ranchu or lionhead tank . Now headache setting up my 4ft tank. 2 points I read somewhere confused me on my years of keeping other fishes.

Keeping goldfish:
- no need to cycle tank before putting goldfish
- wc daily to remove ammonia

Is the 2 points above true? Thanks

Hi Bro. welcome to the goldfish world.
goldfish infect are more sensitive than other fishes therefore the tank need to be cycle.

It depend on you if u want to WC daily. for me i dont WC daily. Just dont change huge amount of water to reduce shock for the fishes.

Many ways to keep:

1)Cycled tank. Used by most who keep in tanks.

2)100% water change every 4 or 5 days (depending on bioload) to remove ammonia.Commonly used by people keeping top views in tubs.

3)Green water. In tubs or ponds; no filtration, ammonia is consumed by free floating algaes. Change water when the water gets too green.

Bro, it depends on your setup.

I have a 2ft tank running on canister with 2 GF.

1 to 2 weeks change one time 50% water, cos the BB inside mature already.

For my tubs with no flitration, every 3 days have to change 100% water.

It would be good to do some cycling from the start, but that time I didn't, just go straight.

Bro can WC 100%? I thought maybe 3/4 of 1/2 tank WC is good enough.

2ft with overhead filter with some gery bio home in the filter box itself.
some coral chip in the tank. pour a capful of bacteria in the tank . the tank is very clear now. so how long can i wait to transfer my fish into the new set up tank?

Yes can change 100%; but ensure chlorine and chloramine is removed from tap water. Those that keep in non cycled tank advisable to do 100% to remove toxic ammonia.

Tank in the process of cycling can turn cloudy. Once cycled, cloudiness will go away. Ususally takes about a month for tank to fully cycle.
If you have added bacteria, the cycling process may have been speeded up so tank is clear. Can transfer fish immediately.
