Don't trust the uv glass cover to be uv leak proof.
Even when mine on and not seen, I hide them so that even the glow can't be seen.
The UV will be conceal in the pipe...which is connected to my return piping from sump.....totally not visible....

see the pipe beside with a white silicon patch? that is where the wire come out, and seal with silicone...

I won't do that.
It will give resistance to flow.

Heng suay venturi effect just after the uv tube and you get vortices that can create shear stress on any joints downstream.

no resistence....The UV sit on top of the tank horizontal section of the tank, till higher at one side, and flow down...

UV installed!

from 20cm pipe to 50cm pipe. This will avoid the venturi effect mentioned by Ong.

There is a slight slope down to assist in the flowing back to tank.

This show the DIY portion to drill a hole for the wire and silicon for water proof.

A "mistake" is use the white silicon which I've no idea whether the light is on or working fine!
Maybe using the transparent one will be able to see some light shadow...I'm not sure....anyway....I'll assume it is running as long as I dun see green water or hairy algae!

DIY cheaper mah....

the UV tube cost me 50+....piping 20+...for 80 to get a 40W UV....
and more effective...no need extra pump which will heat up the water...
