Bioearth not only add mineral to the tank but also absorb toxins and chemical
I think carbon pills work the same way as activated carbon, purify the water and make it crystal clear
Got some leftover lying around so was thinking is it safe to use

Firstly, will the carbon pill dissolved in the water?
If it will get dissolved...how are u going to remove it?

Secondly, is the carbon pill "activated".
I believe carbon have to go thru a high temp before it is "activated"

Thirdly, how much carbon pill is it going to take to remove the unwanted chemicals?
How long?

The pills is referring to Ultracarbon manufactured by Merck
http://www.consumerhealthcare.com.sg...tracarbon.html
According to website it is activated carbon
Yes, it break down to powder as mention by Barracuda
I am using overhead filter on my tank with magic clean on top layer
Magic clean are change during weekly water change
Was thinking maybe drop the pills (quantity by trial and error) with each water change.
The breakdown carbon powder will probably get trap by the magic clean, so changing the magic clean should effectively removed the carbon at the end of each week.
If this is workable, that means water condition should improved alot since activated carbon removed toxic and polish the water

Some points to consider.

1) Cost. Dosage, how much pills to use for a 5ft tank with sump? Will it be practical to use them for fish tanks? Why not use activated carbon bags found in most LFS?
2) A good mechanical filter is needed. After breaking down into powder and adsorpbing all the pollutants, you'll need a good mechanical filter to separate the powdered carbon (loaded with pollutants) from the water. If not removed from water, the carbon powder will continue adsorbing pollutants until its maximum capacity... and then... release the pollutants back into water again. Just like the activated carbon bags used in filters. You need to change them regularly.

Agreed with dave,

You can also use these carbon pills to get rid of smell from drinking bottles/vacuum flask. Just add boiling water and carbon. Wait for a day or 2 .. and the smell will be gone.
