redcross Restless Arowana - Please help

I've 4 year old VFSR arowana, 2 feet in size.

For last 3 weeks my arowana is restless. Most of the time he stand still at one point. Suddenly he swims very fast opening mouth and scratching the body with fins. I tried water change, canister cleanup everything. But still the condition is continuing.

I couldn't find any physical infection or disease. I've dropped bunch of SK gold for him to feed. Some of them died some are still there. Doesn't looks like infected from feeder since the golds were properly quarantined by the fish store keeper.

Somewhere I read it could be due to short circuite of equipments. Hence I disconnected the heater. But no change. The eheim canister filter is still in service. When he dashes i touched the water to check for electric shock which I couldn't find.

What could be wrong? I'm really stressed out everytime i see him dashing that I couldn't help him. please help.

Does it look like it's trying to scratch it's own body by rubbing on the tank?

is it still eating?
if water parameters are good.
Its likely it was frightened by sudden movements surrounding the tank.

Such behavior from aro is when they have been spooked or some object recently placed near the tank that the fish is still not use to it. Try monitor you have done any adjustment inside the tank or outside around the tank that may have cause this problem.

Yes. Somewhat like something is stuck at throat. But doesn't feel like he is rubbing off a parasite

He have stopped eating. I'm using a eheim caniester filter for last 4 years. Recently I heard that the media wears out after 1-2 years and need a media change. Is this true?

Do you open the canister for washing at regular intervals?

Lightbulb Parisites and / or Bacteria infections

Signs to look up for when Aro suffers from external bacteria or parasites attack

1) using its pectoral fins to scratch itself
2) continuous rubbing itself against the tank, filter parts or hard objects
3) regular dashing in the tank

Remedies

1) change filter media
2) regular cleaning of canister and filter medias with tank water
3) should you use cultured bacteria to speed up the maturity of the filter, add them directly into the filter media but not into the tank water with the fish in it
4) daily change of 20% of tank water with anti chlorine added.
5) add rock salts with each water change
6) add a bunch of Indian almond leaves or otherwise its "juice" from an aged water pail with a bunch of these ketapang leaves soaked over a few nights

Just my 2 cents. Hoped it helps and all the best.
