How to properly do water change?
Recently I just bought a XB, and after a week later, I done a water test, ammonia was 2, nitrite was 2, but nitrate was 160ppm!!!
I did a 40% wc and after that, my XB keep diving down and after one to two hrs later, I keep coming up to the surface... After another 10 mins, it die.... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Most likely you did not cycle your tank before putting in the fish.
Like putting you in the Arctic out of sudden with out proper clothing. Then out of sudden throw you in Africa wearing Arctic clothes Last edited by Dave57; 11-05-2014 at 05:47 PM. |

Read up tank water cycle 1st. Nothing to do with proper water change.

Sad to hear that.
First, do u know what is the ph of your tap water? What is the ph of your tank water when u do water change? If the difference is too big, your fish will have ph shock and die because of it. Second, do u add in anti chlorine? It is also advisable to add better quality anti chlorine to remove the chlorine effectively. IMO, the above 2points are rather important to take note while WC... As long as these are taken care of, your fish shouldn't have problem after WC.... Just my 2 cents.... |

The tank has been running for a year, previously it was housing goldfish and then decided to change to XB.
Maybe cause I didn't put in anti chlorine into the tank when I did a wc, but I thought salt will also remove the chlorine n etc? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

I just done a 100% wc. Will monitor the tank 1st and then get one more during end of May. Just put in BB into the tank too and anti chlorine. I used the OF anti chlorine, one of the cheapest. Is it okay?

I am not sure of OF anti chlorine. If your next fish survives, then is ok lo...
I believe u didn't monitor your ph. To me, this ph is a more critical parameter to watch out for... Reason already mentioned in previous reply. Invest in one Ph meter if u have not done so.... |

Personally I trust seachem safe or prime. Test and proven Sc safe powder esp good for big tank as required fairly little amt. I change 20-30% of my 522 tank I only use 1/3 of the spoon. Save a lot . buy the 1kg. Use sun know when ... Sent from my iNO Scout using Tapatalk |
