Friends VFSR suddenly died.
My friends VFSR suddenly died.
what could be the cause? was told that water change was done at around 4PM, with anti chlorine , the VFSR was fed at around 12 Pm noon , diet is mainly MP fed 3 times a week. water change is once every 2 weeks , 30% what could have happened? was told at 8pm it ate some mp again, then around10:30 Pm it suddenly lost balance and turned belly up. when they opened up the stomach , it was full of eggs. what could have been the cause of death? |

i've seen quite a few posts on dystocia / egg bound deaths so let me share this useful information from one of the threads at http://www.koiphen.com. while the below quote involves koi, it should be applicable to aros as well.
Quote:
on a side note, after moving my bigger red to new tank (n keeping her in a bag for 6 hours through the process), she stopped eating for more than a week... almost 2 weeks now. yet i noticed she was still passing out shit... which was a lot more greenish than normal. so i can only assume i was right in sexing my aro, and she's not eating coz of digesting the eggs. |

it'll take a LOT of feeding to change the ph much in a short time... for instance i feed around 1kg of food at one go and the ph drops by 0.1-0.3 over the course of a few hours.. and i dont have much buffers.

Yes, that is what I think too. Sometime I just wc after feeding... So is it a thing to avoid, to feed and wc on the same day? Any theory or reason to support other than the pH issue?

Possibility of egg sac burst in stomach ?
Choked due to heavy feeding ? Interesting case of sudden Aro death. will be a great source of info if the cause(s) is(are) establish. |
