If see fish rather than see "cert"
BD, BDLEO and BDSP can produce equally stunning fish.

If ask scientist
BD = BDLEO = Leo = P13 = Potamotrygon Leopoldi
agree...all in the same family...

if BDLeo x BDLeo produced pups that look exactly like those so called BD criteria like under belly spots, diamond eyes, full skirting etc...so how? classified the pups as BDLeo or BD?

same as BD x BD pups that looked like BDLeo, should classified them as BD or BDLeo?

even if BDleo parents... offspring come out as nice or nicer than BD i'm sure ppl will be willing to pay BD price even if u label as BDleo.

on the other hand even if pure BD parents... offspring come out looking like BDleo or worse... no one will want to buy at BD price.

ultimately BDs are just like red aros. a mature red aro that looks yellowish is still a red aro, but u'll be hard pressed to get even 1k for it. if it's orangy, ppl will buy. if it's really red, 5 digit ppl also willing to pay. all red aro, but ppl buy based on how it looks. like wise be it BDs or BDleos they're ultimately variants of p13. the difference is how they look, not what they're labelled as.

just my 2 cents.

If you take out the bd part...they are p13 x p12 or vice versa.
Buy wat you like and within the budget.

New mkt like China already matured. They don bother abt pure not pure BDleo or BD, they willing to pay high price for nice rays regardless of wat. Matured mkt here still talk abt pure not pure , wat bloodline...... honestly I really don understd y we are gg backward???? Ultimately most pple will just buy nice fish regardless of wat bloodline. Of cos there r gp of pple gg only for pure bloodline. But personally I think pure or not pure is only u think nia........

bd henlei or bd leohen are hybrid...bcos bd/leo is P13 while henlei is P12

wow thats alot of good informations regards to this.
So generally that is no definite ways to 100% differentiate them, all base on trust and experience ya? And so the theory to buy one is just u like it u buy it!
Thanks all for the inputs!

Me very very new to rays.

But I see it this way. There are 2 perspectives to this. One is asking about bloodline, the other about appearance.

Bloodline is genetics. Eg, my blood type is A, my wife is B. Our children can have blood type A, B, O or AB. that's genetics. Just like asking BD and BD can produce BDleo or not? Possible, if the parents not pure BD. But if parents pure BD, then offspring of course also pure BD..this would matter to someone interested in breeding and trading rays.

The other perspective is for the hobbyist. Look at whether the piece you buy is nice to u or not. If not thinking about trading or breeding, then bloodline doesn't really matter? As long as it pleases your eyes.

The only issues comes is when hobbyist wants to breed and trade. Then gotta be careful loh...

Just my 2 cents worth..
