Most of the Koi shown in the UK will have been with their owners for a while, of course this isn't always the case.
The present BKKS National Koi Show Grand Champion was imported to the UK in 2004/2005. It's now in excess of 90cm. It also won the GC prize in 2007. It's fair to say that importing Koi and taking them straight to a show isn't highly respected in the UK. |

Mark,
Is this Showa considered Kage Showa? I noticed it was classified as Showa 45cm in the Nogyosai Show, instead of Kawarimono if it had been Kage? I'm asking becos, yesterday i found a showa that seem to have some Kage markings but i'm not 100% sure. Here's a pic for you to see, i'm sorry i didnt take the side view which had more obvious Kage patches... 52cm Sansai from Takahashi This was a year ago at Takahashi farm when purchased as a nisai What do you think? does it look kage to you? |

I'm not 100% sure that in Japan a Kage Showa would go into Kawarimono. In Nichinrin magazine Kage Showa isn't listed as a variety in Kawarimono, yet Kage Utsuri is.
In the UK Kage Showa went into Kawarimono until around 15 years ago when they just went in Showa, purely because of teh confusion of what a Kage Showa actually was! Kage (car-gay) literally translates as 'shadow'. Many young showa with unfinished sumi could be described as having 'kage' type sumi, when in effect it is just unfinished sumi. Given the age and size of these examples I would shy away from describing either as Kage Showa to be honest. |

thanks Mark, for your views above. I appreciate your insight.
I read your thoughts abt penultimate day in Ojiya. I can almost place myself there, feeling the mixed feeling abt leaving the place that had been home for the pass 1 year, and yet looking forward to going home for christmas. I'm sure it would have been more difficult, had you not been granted 3 more years to continue this adventure that we could only dream of. Here's wishing u a safe journey home and a merry merry christmas! |
