Erm...
Since when anyone owes it to everyone to give them a job ar? It's a very very bad culture.. I know of some places where they - for the lack of better words - keep the weaker singaporeans employed. What happens is... morale is low, people who came in wif passion and fire soon fizzle out and throw in the towel coz they get overloaded while freeloaders get to carry on their merry way... Nothing gets done. Turnover rate is super high and the very people they are supporting end up have to do the work themselves. Btw, my mum has a neighbour who came in as an electrician. Lowly position. He studied EVERY NIGHT at the void deck with a group of friends to obtain his diploma and finally part time degree from NTU. Seriously.. he has to feed his 2 kids and wife (who is not working) and work and study and I usually still see them mugging at 11pm when i walk my dog. they can get so engrossed that they dun even realise they dropped/left their wallet behind once. (Obviously I picked it up and passed it to the wife to pass the hub to return his friend) |

Not sure is upbringing or culture, I find foreigners can withstand stress and pressure than locals. When come to this locals really lose out.

It is the Will of living and Resilient to live! our comfort environment is pulling us back now! That's where people expect job to be reserved for them! Even in today so call bad employment market, we still have choosy people who refuse to work in Tuas! Just look at hawker center. many think that this is a low-class job! hence, it is dominated by foreign workers......but do you know how many of them had turned this low class job into a profitable business, till a chain of store? There is no Low Class job to start with! I remember reading an article of a cleaner who became a cleaning company boss.....small scale but good enough for a decent living. and again what define decent? need to bring back the famous minister speech? a plate in hawker or a meal in restaurant? |

Cost of living in City and rural areas can vary quite drastically, so does income. When comparing cost of living, we need to take into consideration the earning power of locals of that area.
