Kindly advice, Shrimp die while molting
I just started my shrimp tank on 26 Nov 2011, is actually given by my friend with four cherry red. which is a stable tank.
Water temp 23-24 everythings should be stable so i bought 5 CRS. On 5 dec i added a driftwood with spiky plants and change my tank location twice. temp when down to 20-21 in some time it will go down to 19.5 did a 10% water change on 13 dec & add Mosura Gravidas Things started to change on 16 Dec- My first death in the tank is my cherry red follow by the afternoon i saw my CRS died on the spot. Cherry red died while molting i suspected but not for the CRS. 17 Dec bought a Mineral Rock to place in tank and adjust temp to 21-22 19 Dec did a 20% water change add gravidas. 20 Dec another CRS died suspected while molting aswell. Anyone can advice me, what should i do next.Thank you. Try to add a photo of my tank but i think i am not able to do so. |

Stable base on Fire red or cherry can survive doesn't mean your Crs can.
The rest of the parameter?? PH?? GH?? KH?? TDS?? ammonia?? Nitirite?? Nitrate?? When you say temp is 23-24 may i know is it 24/7 or just when you got home?? |

regards to my new temp is now 21-22 from 9am-10pm. fr 10pm onwards i belive the temp would be 22-24 don't really monitor the night as i am not in office. This tank was use to keep crs, which my friend bought a smaller tank and transfer them over to his new tank. The crs ever breed in this tank. he starter the tank with 10 crs and 8 of them die. remaining 2 survive and growing in population until he do a switch, which i take over from him. i intended to buy JBL 6 in1 test kit.-(6in1 tests the following parameters: Chlorine 0 – 3.0 mg/l, pH 6.4 – 9.0, KH 0 – 20 °dKH, GH <1 - > 21 °dGH, nitrite 0 – 10 mg/l, nitrate 0 – 250 mg/l. The JBL test strips boast several special features: They are extra-long with a length of 12 cm, have dividers between the fields so that water does not run from one field into the other and have 4 colour fields for GH measurement. This results in an enormous increase in accuracy and makes the JBL EasyTest strips ideally suited for quick and orientating measurement. is this test kit enough. Is it true that water quality is very important for breeding higher grads CRS? Thanks for your advise. |

Suspect the water GH too high to moult.
But at the moment your information is still too little to tell. |

Best to find out what the parameters are before doing anything about it.

No3 - 10 No2 - 0 GH - >4d-<7d KH - 3d Ph -6.4-6.8 Cl2 - 0 it seems ok. yesterday have adjusted the temp again to 22degree. Hi Avex, the soil have been there around 6months and my friend did take out some of it to put in his new tank. *i notice that there is quite alot of bubbles forming under the soil. someone from green nature told me is ammonia. is that true? I also feel that i need to top up the soil. But how to? will it affect the shrimp. |
