Leadership, continued progress 'are main election issues'
By Jennani Durai

SUCCESSION, leadership renewal and continued progress are the main issues in the next general election, Education Minister Ng Eng Hen said on Tuesday.

And while decisions on where candidates will contest have to be made, the People's Action Party has regularly 'been able to produce a line-up of new candidates that we think will add to the strength of the present government'.

'It's important to bring in people who can identify with youth and people with proven administrative capabilities to be able to lead Singapore on,' he said in response to questions about an election, which analysts expect to be held by June.

'The PAP has done that for the last 50 years, we want to continue.'

Dr Ng, who was also asked about constituency boundary changes, spoke on the sidelines of the 125th anniversary celebrations of the Anglo-Chinese Schools at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

He noted that the boundaries of the five-man Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC, formed in 1997 and for which he is an MP, remain intact.
