That's elitism at play.

Remember him saying with a smirk.... Well, everybody has a car, we have two — my wife drives one, I drive one. We are both professionals, we need to travel.”

There is nothing wrong with what he said, but some people dun understand the root of the problem. Or just making a fuzz about it.

The owner might lost his job and unable to pay, so look mp for help lor. If cant do anything, downsize. Worst cast is rent. However before u sign on the dot, they would have already assess if u can afford to pay for the flats. Problem comes after getting to flat. Are u able to service it for the next 30yrs?

However many failed to see that prices had gone to a level that those getting 2-3k can't buy a 4rm flat now that they are buying 3rm. Income level qualifing level should reduce instead of raise to keep it in check.

The damages were done way before his time.
A problem that had gone too big and hard to handle.
Now can only见招出招。

Cannot leh.

My sister and BIL checked with HDB mid of last yr and the officer replied was cannot rent from HDB. They sold off their unit in march of 2011.
Very confusing.

It is not as simple as downgrading. 5 room to 4 room.

I know of a case. Business failure. Declare bankrupt. Into Debt.
Become taxi driver. Every month living from hand to mouth.
He wanted to downgrade to pay off his debts and
also to lessen his monthly mortgage payments.

The problem is yes, he can sell off the 5 room and take whatever proceeds to pay off his debts but he will not be able to get another loan to buy the 4 room flat that he needs.

So how ? There's nothing that he can do other than to grit his teeth and work longer hours so as to cover the monthly mortgage payments.
Otherwise, where is his family going to stay ?
Inevitably, after every few months, he will be in arrears.

Recently, he got a transient ischaemic attack, ie a mild stroke.
Hospitalised for 3 days and doctor wanted to give him MC for one month.
He needs to beg the doctor and negotiate for one week MC instead of one month.
Why ? Because he cannot drive when on MC but the taxi rental will go on as per normal.
No income but still got to pay rental. Double whammy.

All these 4 legs good, 2 legs better will never understand how life hits hardest on those who are down.

They will just go bleating 4 legs good, 2 legs better
All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others.

If I'm not wrong, in the 80s, parliament were not as regulated as today. Those were the days, JBJ (during his time as MP) gave them a run for their money. Singaporeans will see how great these 'best' people are.
