There should be some form of regulation.
Else any tom, dick or hairy can just jump onto the bandwagon. Btw... i personally feel that some competition is good. Comfort is like playing monopoly and i've been hearin stories abt the call centers frm diff cabbies Last edited by satan_gal; 22-10-2015 at 05:25 PM. |

If we look back at the days of Yellow Top taxi, where a person can own multiple taxis and rent it out to other cabbies.
The gov stepped in, taxi companies 'buy' these private taxi operator license from many Yellow Top taxi drivers, and limit all existing (those who didn't sell) to only 1 cab per license. That's where they have already regulate. I don't see them letting Uber continue their way. It's like going back to Yellow Top taxi scheme soon. |

and what is wrong with yellow top taxi scheme ?
this scheme is very much like what they do in HK ..... it is the dream of every taxi driver who rent a taxi to finally own his taxi, and thereafter own second taxi to rent out ..... that's what drive society and economy, no ? people must be motivated If Facebook can be regulated, they'll freaking hell regulate Facebook and most importantly, tax them How else can gambling be an offence but casino is perfectly fine |

btw.. by regulation, i refer to making the driver responsible in case anything happens.
Other den tat, I dun see why we need to tell ppl - Hey, you MUST fall under the huge ass umbrella of GLC to be self employed and yet subjected to rules and regulations and high rentals tat will never see the end of the tunnel. Den again, I'm not a Uber person. I still firmly believe that I shd give biz to the taxi uncles who had to fork out for training and etc first. My neighbour who's a cabby juz managed to sway me to use grabtaxi. Tat's the max i can/will go. I still dun feel comfy takin pte cars |

Regulation in Singapore means just one thing
PAY and no, the payer has no benefits ..... the payer pays so that he gets regulated and taken to task when some scholars set some rules which he fail to abide by Taxi drivers are regulated. They pay for their vocation licence and whatever exams that needs to be taken And then when a passenger complains he took a long route, he gets hauled up to give statement, foregoing his pay for that day and still have to pay rental ..... that's regulation |

On gambling, anything outside Sg Pools, Turf Club, both casinos, are mostly illegal (except some clubs etc). So, last time bet whatever, eg soccer, was illegal, but they legalized it by letting Sg Pools n Turf Club manage it. A lot of things they don't have their fingers in (the pot) are illegal but it is legal if they have their fingers in it. All about tax isn't it? And Singapore is possibly the only country that sets minimum fuel rule for Sg registered cars leaving the country. But I'm not complaining. Since 911 (wow seems like both 911s are extreme), I mostly stop complaining. |

Regulation of taxi is more about money rather than improvement of standards. Yellow top cab is a good example.
Dont let taxi driver own their own taxi and be really self employed but ask them rent from comfort delgro at high price in the name of raising service standard. Why not ask taxi drivers form their own co-ops and the co-op need to maintain a certain standard and call center for all taxi and at the same time taxi drivers can own their own vehicle. In Spore almost everything is about renting in one form or another. Your 30 years factory lease, 99 yrs condo, 99 hdb, 10 yrs coe ..etc. |

If Singapore gov wants to be seen as forward looking and attract startups to invest in this country, they must find a balance on how to maintan an equilibrium business ecosystem btwn the new player and incumbents.
These IT applications that are "disruptive", to the government coffers or incumbent rice bowls, will surely attract the relevant authorities to do their due diligence whether can regulate or not. AirBnB is one example, but, got many hospitality people complain so far? Don't have....so, happily many home owners are still renting out their properties via this app.... The non IT product kena banned so far is e-ciggies.....soon, I see those flying drones will be regulated soon, just like in US. |

I will agree the idea if the Uber cabbies go for taxi course and obtained a taxi lisense.
With a prominent Uber logo on the car, it looks more organised and uniformed. But now its a bit messy and confusing, they are like 霸王车 in the early years. |
