SINGAPORE: Jobs, online gambling, as well as rewards for Singapore's Paralympic medallists, will be on the agenda when Parliament sits on Monday (Oct 10).

Amid weak economic indicators including rising unemployment and redundancies as well as slower growth projections, at least 15 Members of Parliament submitted questions for the ministers for Manpower as well as Trade and Industry.

Among them, Mr Desmond Choo wanted to know how the Manpower Ministry will help affected workers, especially the professionals, managers, executives and technicians (PMETs) who are the most affected. Mr Liang Eng Hwa and Ms Foo Mee Har wanted to know if there would be changes to the Employment Pass scheme for foreign hires in light of the increasing supply of local PMETs.

The recent exemption of operators Singapore Pools and Singapore Turf Club from the ban on online gambling also drew parliamentary questions from MPs Christopher de Souza and Edwin Tong on safeguards against the ill effects of online gambling.

MPs also submitted questions on the use of personal mobility devices like electric bikes, with Dr Lee Bee Wah wanting to know when the Land Transport Authority (LTA) would begin enforcement action against errant riders, and at least six other MPs tabling questions on accidents involving by such devices.

Citing the sun shield on a Tampines HDB block that gave way, Dr Tan Wu Meng and Mr Christopher de Souza wanted to know if HDB blocks in mature estates are monitored for structural integrity.

In the wake of Yip Pin Xiu's and Theresa Goh's achievements at the Rio Paralympics, three MPs submitted parliamentary questions on the level of support and rewards received by disabled athletes.

The topics are among the 91 questions submitted for oral answer and 33 for written answer.

Eight Government bills will also be introduced, including the Credit Bureau Bill, as well as the Constitutional Amendment Bill on the changes to the Elected Presidency.

Let MPs discuss is to show that they do value feedback.........but end of the day, it's still about money that will slip through their hands if left untapped.........

Actually come to think of it. If the government has approved the online gambling thing, why other mps bothers to raise question? Aren't they suppose to come to agreement before it is passed? Or upper management pass first then come ask them? Anyone dare to oppose own party?

I feel sad after these strings of events happening after the big win last year. Coming 1 will be bad for opposition as new citizens will dilute their votes and go to MIW.
