Upgrading Media while Wife is away
Wife out of town for the weekend so decided to plan this activity while she's not around.. Heehee.
I realised that all my media in the sump is at least 10 years old. Though it's still functioning, with my heavy loaded tank. The media's efficiency is not enough to sustain the load. In any case.. It's been 10 years and no media last forever.. I had biohome, Mr Aqua and some unknown CR. All these media were bought and used when I first shifted into my own home. And even with a change to a bigger tank and bigger sump, I've not changed the media. I only added more by means of "Pumice Stone". These. Pumice stone media I've left them be in the sump which is primarily just beneath the filter wool. So.. Finally bite the bullet and went out to buy 14 big blocks of Marine Pure media.. Read and heard much good things about it and I've personally handled it in a sump. Marine Pure is very light when dry and new. But once soaked in water.. It's a real sucker. The big block actually soaked so much water its weight increased nearly 3x it's original.. All Choke full of water. So this morning. Burnt much calories in removing all the old media and placing the big block Marine Pure in. Anyways.. The pictures shows it. And yes.. I take the gamble in changing out all the 10 year olds media. Only old media is the Pumice stone (about 3 years). Added powder BB after the change. Last edited by marshy; 21-06-2015 at 05:01 PM. |

Nice! Looks like its something new tt can ease maintenance of the medias. May I know if there is any impact to the tank pH?

Water is not going to flow thru the block right ? So do you need to slow down the flow rate ?
