I feel like perhaps it's more like collection from different populations from different areas so the the redness and red coverage may become different.

So many types of tetras out there... my planted tank mainly tetra tank...
- albino white tip tetra (near transparent body) (50 for $20)
- balloon red eye tetra (50 for $20)
- something else, orangy n black stripe, tetra (50 for $20)
- Cardinal tetra (50 for $28 [slightly bigger ones cost more])

All gotten from Seaview. For such, i rather buy from farm tho it is out of the way. Those from lfs were also from farms, but packed for how long already? Some fishes becomes sick.

I made a mistake... the last batch, cardinal tetras, were not quarantine and 'bath' with Pazi Gold. Maybe this breed of tetras are very weak, out of 50 pieces, easily 15 died.. and likely, the disease also killed my 2 full grown and stable cardinal tetras.

Be Wary!!!

The price may be lower than LFS but the fish is also smaller compare to those sold in LFS. Probably more delicate, weaker, less stable and susceptible to diseases.

LFS also selling bags of small tetras at about the same price or higher. More importantly, LFS bags were packed longer than freshly bag in farms.

Larger ones also available in farms. It's up to individuals what size they want.

Since casulties are so high, I suspect they are either weak genes or fragile fishes. So the exact same (caught from tank and bag) sold in LFS would fare worse.

I am no expert but I think the Brazilian Cardinals are more expensive and redder while the ordinary ones from HK/China are cheaper and the colour is less intense.

Petmart sells both types.
