Easy Breeding For Starters

I may not be an experienced breeder but I would say guppies and other livebearers(mollies, swordtails etc) are the easiest tropical fish to breed.

Easy as they are but they seem non-profitable as it's always difficult to find buyers. Thus "no buyers = no profits".

Will hope all the great breeders here to share their vast knowledge on which type of fish are easy to breed and yet in demand to sell for making some profits to reinvest on our aquarium journey.

P.S.
Hopefully this thread will fill up with replies for fish owners like me who want to learn more about breeding.

I find that platies and swordtails of today are just too artificial. They have high fin, long tail, off beat colours and the like. Compare to the good old days, they were just peace looking group of pleasant body shapes and colours.

While guppies do not change alot for their tails and body shapes, but I do find that platies and swordtails have their bodies "modified" tremendously so much so I have to look properly to identify whether I am looking at platies or swordtails!

I beg to differ...

Some times... to perfect the simplest or easiest is not that simple at all!


For example, fried-rice is so simple to cook....but damm hard to perfect....

Once, a Japanese friend cook fired-rice with only salt and egg... no other extra ingredients...Boy! was it good!


If you can breed GOOD + SOLID + PERFECT guppies.... People will be knocking on you door liao!

Thanks for the enlightenment.

My concern is that inexperienced breeders like me may find it frustrating and lost after their guppies produced hundreds of fries/offspring.

The next thing on their mind is what to do with so many guppies before they crowd the tank and bring death to all of them.

Many will want to sell away these load of guppies but no idea who wants them and who to sell to. Guppies are available at most LFS at $1 a piece thus making inexperienced breeder like me think that it seems non-profitable while breeding guppies.

wow! how much time do you think it requires to flood sg with these full red guppies? want them but cannot spare that much to buy them at such price.

but are we not suppose to discuss on how to properly breed fish here?
