Squid tanks?
Any bros got experience with squid tanks?
Was reading through the net and found this article that got me interested.... http://www.reefsmagazine.com/forum/r...uttlefish.html Squids have always fascinated me as a kid...the recent sight of a squid in a IQ7 during Aquarama got me interested again after so many years... Currently I have a 34L nano with just 2 clownfish inside. Was thinking of converting that to a squid tank! Need advice! |

They secrete ink? Make your tank water blackish?

The squid in the IQ7 at aquarama was really cute. But can you keep them long term in a small tank?

I think you mean cuttlefish and not squid.
They are fascinating creatures to keep but need near perfect water conditions, especially nitrate level and probably cooler water temperature. A nanotank might not be suitable unless there is sufficient skimming and filtration provided. The bad thing is that their lifespan is relatively short. The flamboyant cuttlefish (1 to 1.5 inch) will be most suitable for a nano tank. They are also very expensive (100 SGD and above) The dwarf cuttlefish will be a cheaper althernative; they are about 2 to 2.5 inch and should cost less than 20 SGD, probably will need a 2' tank. hope this info helps. |

Henry's ML brought in something lidat(cuttlefish). Anyway isn't a round tank needed to prevent them from hurting themselves like the jellyfish?!

they do need perfect water parameters though. and a quality skimmer must be running on the tank in case they do "ink". i am not sure about temperature requirements but i have kept multiple octopuses without a chiller with no problems. very rewarding animals to keep in spite of the short lifespan. in fact i have recently downsized and am now prepping for another octopus. but might consider a cuttlefish if available/suitable. apart from ML, which LFS/farm brings in cuttlefish? anyone got photos from aquarama? |

Very possible to keep squids in tank I think. Saw lots of them in aquarium tanks throughout hokkaido.

I dont worry abt filtration and skimming. I like over filtering and over skimming lol.
Im worried abt where to get constant supply of live food for the cuttlefish now though... |

is live food necessary? i have read that cuttles will accept frozen. my octopuses ate purely frozen. worst case, some species of damsel and chromis can be had for $1/pc. if the size is suitable.
