Just curious, what substrate do you guys use for ur newt tanks? I'm using those larger pebbles, but i find it quite ugly. Can use lapis gravel or not ah? Scared wait when they feeding the time they accidentally swallow the gravel.

that expensive? I remember buying 1 for $3 early this year. apparently the shopkeeper brings in regularly as he was commenting how they were sold like hotcakes. the species I got was the Japanese firebelly newt though. smaller in size.

not an easy pet to keep. (at least for me) mine refused to eat anything, from live insects to frozen bloodworms. mine only managed to survive for 3 months.

Keep them in bare tank with just driftwood providing them with a place to hide and to climb to the surface for a breather will be fine. I set up mine like this.
