'oily' surface
need help
my tank surface is always cover by a firm of oil like when i look from under the water upward.the oil cant be scoop using a net.everytime i did a wc to get rid of it 1 day later it would appear back again. realy no idea what happening. my almost 2 month crs tank has only taiwan moss,riccia and downoi.a diy co2 and cannister filter |

You can put a few layer of newpaper on the top for an hour or so, then the oil will be absorb by the paper or get a surface skimmer.

Its normal bro, we all experience that. only way out is to scoop it out or install a surface skimmer.

Mollies will take care oily surface as they eat the oil from plants but then don't know they will eat CRS shrimplets or not. My cherries are ok with a few mollies.

My advice is that no fish should be mixed with shrimplets unless its an oto or chinese algae eaters.
I guess not many people will have the balls to keep mollies in their crs breeding tanks just because of the oil layer. haha. especially in high grade tanks. |
