Default Xiaomi Mi TDS Pen

Came across Xiaomi Mi TDS Pen when I was searching for TDS Pen. Love the design but find out Xiaomi does not sell it in Singapore. The only option is to purchase oversea and ship in. Total I bought 5 pcs (4 pcs I let go in this forum).

TDS means total dissolved solids.
it is the measurement of salts and other dissolved compounds in the water.

TDS readings can be affected by the aquarium salts and sodium bicarbonates (baking soda) we add into the tanks.

needless to say, marine tanks will have higher TDS than FW.
african lake setups have higher TDS requirements than river fish setups.
generally, african lake cichlids (eg, malawi, tanganyikans, victorians) do better in higher TDS environment than river fishes (eg, south american FW stingrays, plecos).

generally, more fish poop, waste food = higher TDS

is TDS measurement essential?
depends on requirements
general fish keeping hobbyists don't need TDS, you should be fine with your regular WC routine and clearing of excess food and filter media maintenance.
it is important to some more serious hobbyist. I know some breeders measuring TDS religiously, because certain fishes need certain TDS to breed, color up, etc...
