How to breed oscars?
Hi All,
Think my pair of beautiful oscars (9 albino & 12" orange map) is ready to breed as both are getting very aggressive, and having regular orgasms (shaking). Currently they are comm with a 11" pearl aro (always kanna wacked) and 8" red devil. Apart from separating them from other tankmates, would like to learn from the experts on the preparation and breeding process...kumsia |

if you have a confirm pair, breeding will happen naturally. but for oscars, the thing is.. it is VERY VERY VERY hard to get a pair. it is impossible to sex them and very often, male and male or female and female will also show courtship behaviour and look like a pair but they are not. anyways, enough said. good luck and all the best for your oscars (: hopefully you have a pair and they mate soon (: |

No new project lah...many bros who have seen both oscars commented that most probably they are a pair. Put on sale boh lang ai, so must well try to breed lor and to gain some experience nia...If not successful, i will release them into my camp's big pond to prevent mosquito breeding instead of selling off at lau sai price....

Give the pair some cover, a flower pot or pail weighed down. When the fry are free swimming and "buzzing" around, you can use a water siphon to bring them out of the tank and isolate them.
If you prefer the fry to be brought up by the parents, then remove the parents from the tank and isolate them so that they can bring up their children in peace. |

Oscar are excellent parents. Both male and female takes care of the fries.
Yes, flower pot (if you have those without holes at the base even better) is good cover for wriggles, easy for the parent fishes to look after. |

You can place a flat pice of big rock for the parents to lay their eggs. Thats what I did for my previous pair to be...they were cleaning at it for couple of months and even did the motion of laying eggs. But nothing come out...hehehe
