Singapore Airlines ends wage cuts for employees over 60
SINGAPORE, April 13 (Reuters) - Singapore Airlines (SIA) , the world's second most valuable carrier by market capitalisation, has scrapped a practice of cutting salaries of employees by 10 percent once they reach 60, a company spokesman said on Wednesday. "We have rolled back the wage cuts at age 60 for all employees, effective April 1," said a company spokesman. SIA's move underscores rising wage pressures amid a tighter labour market in Singapore, at a time when the city-state is likely to see inflation hit 5-6 percent in the coming months. The company's decision also meets one of the key demands of its pilots union, Air Line Pilots Association (Singapore), which has been in disagreement with the company over salaries and employment terms for senior pilots close to retirement age. (Reporting by Charmian Kok) ----------------------------- One hand gov increasing president pay (and ministers will follow suit [after GE maybe??] if they hv not), on e other hand other sectors used to deduct older worker's pay. So, SIA being GLC, what's so surprising. President, MM, SM are all above retirement age but they getting exhortbitant increases. This current PM will award himself a stable SM position in future won't he? |
