Default Question on marine tank quote for my office

Dear all,

I'm helping my boss negotiate for a contract to set up a marine fish tank in our office. I have experience only in fresh water fish so i'm not sure about prices or equipment to use. I am the only guy who keeps fish so i at least know what to do so my boss is asking me to handle this.

Below are some details of the quote:
- 6ft x 1.5ft (W) x 2.8ft (H) glass tank (10mm thickness)
- sump tank filtration system
- Stainless steel stand
- live rocks
- Wave maker
- LED light set
- Hailea 6550 return pump (have already requested for a change to a european branded pump like fluval or eheim or OR6500)
- coral chips, sand
- Protein skimmer for 6ft
- 1 horse power air con chiller
- assorted live corals and fishes
- Delivery of sea water.

Total quote is 13-14k. Is this very pricey?

I have an idea on brands of items and prices as i keep arowanas mainly for big tanks also but have absolutely no idea on what to expect in the realms of marine fishes so would appreciate your help.

Qns:
1) Anyone has any feedback of Pacific Coo? Apparently this is the company that would be doing up our office tank together with the ID company
2) Is there such a brand for '1 horse power air con chiller'? If not what brand should i request for the chiller?
3) What are the min standard of brands of individual of items that i should be looking for?
4) Does the tank need to have full euro bracing? Total amount of water at 90% fill is slightly under 700L of water.
5) Any other tips would be appreciated.

There's also a maintenance contract to negotiate which costs $550 for the following:
- 4 times a month, once a week cleaning, removal of algae
- partial sea water change
- Replacement of dead corals or dead fish
- Equipment check (which any replacement is on my company's account)

Is the above reasonable? What else should i be asking for?

Thanks!

Hmmm will need more detail of the equipment brand the livestock going in. If all good stuff, then ok if all china brand and normal fishes then way expensive. Maybe u can compare a few more vender? There is quite a few in singapore, just take a ride to pasir ris farm and can look at the display tank that the marine farm have. It should be the best as they maintain everyday, if dun look look to you then can move on.

Just a suggestion why not go in fresh water since you have experience in it. For marine tank will need some experience if any thing happen the whole tank will crash and will be very smelly.

Thing to take note:
Thickness of tank must be at least 12mm
For better viewing crystal clear glass is recommanded
For the price of 13-14k, european brand like deltec, tunze, votech, etc should be used.
Live stock (coral and fishes) also has cheap and ex, best to ask them to list out.

This is how i feel, can pm me if u have more question. =)

Qn 1 ) Pacific Coo, who is the person u are liasing with ? is it Derrick ?

Qn 2 ) the 1 hp chiller is actually a aircon compressor modified to chill marine tanks with coils.

so the brands will be the aircon brands that we are familiar with.
Daikin, Mitsubishi etc

Hi,

just to share

Aquarium Iwarna
Aquamarin
Reef Systems
Aquarium Artist

this are the few LFS or farm that do package and contract sales that i prefer
they will provide every single detail
check out the reef forum at sgreefclub

personal preference i prefer reef systems or iwarna
look at those member tanks you would know.
u can go see member tank and you can know which maker they got it from.

also i not sure which shop u got the quote from ,
but importantly do avoid the marine farm shop beside qianhu.
( if this is inappropiate please delete)
(pm me if u need details)

10mm glass for 6ft and 2.8height marine tank, sound frightening to me.
i wouldn't want that,
i would go for aluminium profile stand.
look nicer, better structure integrity.
saltwater density is heavier. and those live rock weight alot as well.

unless your light set is quality LEDs set, deltec,/eheim/dragon pump ,vortech wave maker, deltec skimmer.

if everything provided is china brand, they treating you like carrot.(no offence). you paying way way more than needed.

just my personal feel.
you can pm for more detail or go sgreefclub look at those members tank.

Bro...

package deal pricing is different from self setup pricing.

if you think these are high, go aquatechnic and ask.

if the deal is that they are servicing the tank, and replacing the equipment as and when needed, then no need to bother about brand and reliability. (just take care of power consumption.)

On live stock, it is best there is a listing, as well as fish.

bec a clown fish can cost $2-5, while some tangs can cost $200-500.
same for coral.

They should give a concept and mock up for you to see what you like.

bec coral also have many different colours.....some like it green, yellow or brown, pink, etc!

Thx all for the responses.

- 6ft x 1.5ft (W) x 2.8ft (H) (12mm glass), 40inches sump tank (6mm glass) and stainless steel stand.
- 100kg live rocks
- Jebao wp 60 wave maker x 2
- led light set x 2 (maxspec)
- ehiem 1264 return pump
- coral chips x 2 bags
- coral sand x 4 bags
- protein skimmer (bubble magus)
- 1hp chiller (Mitsubishi 9000btu full set direct coil dip to sump tank)
- $500 worth of corals.
- $500 worth of fishes
- topping up of seawater

I didn't know these days chiller can use aircon to convert to chiller instead.

My boss is ok to use this Pacific Coo as they come together with our office ID so easier to work with. Just don't want to be too Robert. Understand we would pay some sort of premium for office job but also don't want to pay too much lah...

List out the corals & fish we can help to break down the prices. And for maxspect led how many watts are they planning to use there is a new 300w set in the market good enough for 6ft.
