How long do you keep ketapang leaves?
I keep one leave per tank as my tanks are not big. Just wonder how long do you guys keep the leaves.
Until the you cannot find "tea" colour in the tank? I was wondering if ketapang leaves have any shelf life... Is there some kind of guidelines, from the expert, to avoid rotting leaves in your tank? Last edited by amigo; 15-07-2004 at 10:21 PM. |

Some ppl put ketepang leaves in their water aging container so dat the will not have a chance for the leaves to rot which could lead to the bettas being infected.

Read somewhere in this place that black water are actually extracts of ketapang leaves. Of course plus many things.
Moreover these leaves are plentiful in Singapore....Don't waste what Mother Nature has given us. Just like to know when to throw away the old ones and change new leaves. |

I would recommend you to switch to Ketapang extract or Blackwater. I would not advise u to leave the leaves in the tank as when you remove an a leaf from a tank it still leaves sediment on the bottom of the tank that can rot and lower your water quality. For extract, usually a light yellow-brown is what the normal watercolor of the betta's habitat is. Regards, -MeLaNo- |

Lipton tea? You sure this is not an advert from Lipton?
kekeke..just kidding.... My bettas enjoy the doped water, but after sometime, they also kind of bored, and beahve...well, like any betta. So wonder if there is any shelf life in ketapang leaves. |

I now boil the leaves, soak overnight and then bottle them. More convenient la. But if you prepare more, it is better to store the extra bottles in the fridge. You have to play around to get the concentration. For me the preparation is dark like kopi-o. No more slimmy stuff from the leaves.
