kk panda shrimplets survival rate low
Hi all shrimp bros,
I realized my kk panda shrimp lets survival rate was around 10 to 20% to reach 10mm size. Water parameter: TDS 130 temp 24.5 deg c using Distilled water. My CRS shrimplets in the same tank survival rates are very much better which i did not really monitor but should be more than 50%. Can anyone willing to share how you bring up the kk panda survival rate? Thanks. |

Perhaps the temperature is a bit too high. Kk shrimplets will do much better in the 22-23 deg C. How is your Gh?

From my limited experience, I noticed that once shrimps start breeding, do NOT change anything. If you do, you will see constant death throughout your tank at a rate of 1-3 pieces every single day. |

I do not measure gh, is it a must? I do measure the TDS.
Most shrimp keepers keep kk panda around 25deg c right? |

Hi Washy, I was using tap water at first then the subsequence top up or water changes are using distilled water. Yes, I do know not to change anything when the shrimps start breeding. I think i did change 10-15 percent water once in a month. |

Once a month? How is your feeding regiment like? Might be a case of high ammonia or nitrates! Measured before? Other than the shrimplets, any adult casualties?

I once experience adult casualties like 2 or 3 in a week but shrimplets 5-10mm are ok. So I did water change and adults shrimp stop dying to around 1 or 2 in a month. Is it true that kk panda shrimplets need 22-23 deg c? |

Thanks Bai, that is a relief to hear that.
Is it normal that kk panda survival rate is around these range of mine 10-20% or simply I need to make some improvement in my shrimp keeping. Sorry if I am asking such question because actually I just started less than a year. |

Survive rate won't be 10-20% of what you have breed out. Once you get everything right.
Most important is keep your tank simple and don't anyhow adjust parameter. As you are using distill water, the tds should be 0-10. You will need to top up some mineral to the distill water when needed. |
