Ts, how big is your newly purchased?

When the said aro is too small, starving it to take pellets may not be advisable.

how big is your aro? the smaller it is the higher the likelyhood it can be trained to take pellets. but instead of starving it if it's small, try feeding pellets on a regular basis till it realises it's food.. alternatively gut load or fill up watever food u're feeding it with pellets so it gets used to the taste.

mature aros that have not been fed on pellets previously are unlikely to accept pellets, even if u starve them for a month. ultimately it depends on how fussy your aro is.. some can be weaned onto pellets relatively easily, some take pellets only when starved, some refuse pellets all the way.

1) keep a greedy tankmate.
like a tinfoil barb or red hook.
when the tankmates are eating pellets.
the hungry aro will learn from the tankmates.

2) stuff pellets in MP
let the aro familiarize with the pellet's taste

as long as you see the aro chewing the pellets, you are halfway there.

patience is important.
